POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage and coordinate the district council program's scope of work to support district councils’ objectives to provide content-rich, mission-aligned programming to members at the local level. Document and disseminate information about a portfolio of ULI products available to district councils including DEI initiatives, cohort programming, and best practices within the DC network across the Americas. Serve as liaison between ULI’s district council group and ULI’s Americas NEXT and YLG leadership steering committees. Participate, advise, and provide leadership in all aspects of the group’s work program including but not limited to committee support, membership outreach, communications, event planning, and other organizational requirements. Support the group as needed with management of or assistance with other programs and initiatives. Reports to Executive Vice President, District Councils.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner, collaborate, and support the Americas level NEXT and YLG leadership steering committees. Working in concert with key, high-impact member leadership, this Director will work with these groups to guide and support their initiatives so that it dovetails with the work of the broader Institute. The candidate should have high-level volunteer engagement/member management experience and highly attuned emotional intelligence skills.
  • Partner, collaborate, and support local organizing committees within the district council network to produce programming, grow membership, and attain district council status.
    • Work with member leaders to strategically implement strategies to continue to grow programming and membership.
    • High level volunteer engagement/membership engagement experience is a must along with demonstrated operational excellence and effectiveness.
  • Represent district councils, support, and direct DEI collaborations and scope of work projects including but not limited to cultural humility training, DEI programming, and other programs and projects as needed.
  • Partner with various internal and external stakeholder groups to support DEI initiatives within the district council network.
  • Partner with Executive Vice President on partnerships and programming needs with Americas Executive Committee and the District Council Counselors program.
  • Direct special projects and analysis as needed.
  • Serve as a senior team member of the district council team, supportive of its annual goals.
  • Experience working in a matrix environment with many stakeholders to engage is necessary.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and strong collaboration skills across various stakeholders is a prerequisite.

Internal Relationships

  • Close coordination with district council headquarters team, EVP, other ULI headquarters staff and district council staff.
  • Maintain an elevated level of customer service and follow through for all internal relationships.
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in understanding field operations and providing operational excellence at all levels.
  • Supporting the team to meet our current objectives.

External Relationships

  • Provide the highest level of follow up and customer service to external stakeholder audiences.
  • Maintain frequent interactions with ULI volunteer members including the YLG Americas Leadership Steering Committee and the NEXT Americas Leadership Steering Committee.
  • Work in partnership with internal stakeholders on DEI initiatives and programs that reach external audiences.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree and related job experience required.
  • 7-10 years of experience working with the public, private or nonprofit sectors or in association management organizations.
  • Related experience managing the programs of a chapter-based organization at the national level strongly preferred.
  • Volunteer engagement or membership based organizational experience a plus with demonstrated proficiency in member leader partnerships and execution of ideas.
  • Working on community engagement and communications in land use and real estate development a plus but not required.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility and to work with minimal supervision in a high production position.
  • Demonstrated judgment, customer focus, and interest in ULI mission.
