Summary
The city of San Francisco is at the center of the evolution of local, regional and global transportation systems, and the San Francisco County Transportation Authority is leading the way in understanding the effects of emerging technologies, crafting policy and investment solutions that address current and future needs, and ensuring that our transportation systems work for all communities. We’re looking to hire either a Principal Planner or Senior Planner as part of our policy team housed in the agency's Executive Division. Principal Planner and Senior Transportation Planner applicants should have five or three years respectively of progressively responsible experience in transportation policy, fund programming, and planning. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable as described in the job descriptions below.
Reports to: Chief Deputy Director or designee
Exemption Status: Full-Time, Exempt
You'll lead multiple efforts, including managing or supporting policy and technical analysis; serving as a funding, legislative, and policy resource for co-workers, external agency staff and policymakers; and interacting with a variety of policymakers, public agency staff, stakeholders, and community members.
Examples of projects and efforts you may work on include:
- Lead or support the development of policies and legislation to advance Transportation Authority goals and objectives, including research and analytical support.
- Support San Francisco representatives on regional bodies such as the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Bay Area Air Quality Management District. You will coordinate internally across the agency and with city and regional partners to evaluate proposals, provide input, and, typically, seek to develop consensus on a strategic approach.
- Coordinate San Francisco input into the regional transportation plan/sustainable communities strategy; develop strategy and input in areas related to transportation, environment, equity programs, climate adaptation, and housing.
- Formulate and help implement funding plans and related advocacy strategies to support Transportation Authority and San Francisco priority projects ranging from small/mid-sized projects to regional mega projects like The Portal/Downtown Rail Extension.
- Lead, support, and/or provide input into new local, regional, state, and/or federal revenue measures and other legislation.
Annual Compensation Range
Principal: $117,333 – 161,920
Senior: $101,174 – 139,618
Salary is dependent on experience, plus excellent benefits. The Transportation Authority offers an employer contribution to a retirement plan in lieu of Social Security. In addition, the Transportation Authority offers a generous cafeteria-style benefits package and flexible work arrangements including up to 3 days remote work per week.
Retirement: Up to 12.47% employer contribution
Insurance: Health, dental, life, short- and long-term disability and more. Medical and dependent care pre-tax reimbursement accounts.
Deferred Compensation (Section 457) Up to IRS limit
Vacation: Three (3) weeks of vacation per year during the first 5 years of service.
Holidays: 12 holidays per year, plus 3 personal holidays.
Commuter Benefits: Up to $160 per month in Commuter Checks or a $20 per month bike benefit.
