City Planner

The City of Hastings, Nebraska, is seeking a versatile City Planner with excellent communication skills. Hastings is a vibrant city that blends modern progress with traditional community values. Reporting to the Development Services Director, the City Planner will be instrumental in helping create a safe, attractive, and vibrant community by performing complex planning and design work for both long- and short-range community development projects. The City Planner will develop professional recommendations for planning, zoning and subdivision issues and assist with grant activities for related community development studies and projects. The City Planner will provide design and planning guidance for specific commercial and residential area plans throughout the City and will assist the Department with innovative engagement efforts to the community for department projects and programs. Additionally, the role will provide data collection, presentations, maps, records, and other supporting materials pertaining to community development, planning, and zoning efforts for the Planning Commission, City Council, and the City’s partner agencies within the Commission’s jurisdiction.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in planning, or one of the related social or engineering sciences, and some professional experience. A master's degree in city, regional, or urban planning in absence of experience is acceptable. Must possess a valid driver’s license. American Institute of Certified Planners certification (A.I.C.P.) is preferred.

The City is offering a highly competitive salary range of $64,708 - $91,312 and is negotiable dependent upon the hired candidate’s qualifications and experience.
