The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (”Commission”), the nationally regarded regional planning agency for the seven county greater Milwaukee area, and the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization for the five urbanized areas within southeastern Wisconsin, has an immediate opening for a spatial/data analyst with an interest in socioeconomic data to support the Commission’s planning work. The Commission is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our diverse team of planners, engineers and specialists focused on addressing issues that transcend the political boundaries and fiscal capabilities of individual communities. The successful individual will be a key staff member in the Land Use Planning Division and will respond to both internal and external requests for data.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Collect and research socioeconomic data for the seven-county Region
  • Collect and compare data to comparable regions as needed
  • Collaborate with Commission staff on database development, usage, and analysis
  • Provide technical support and assistance in drafting technical reports with regard to local and regional population and employment projections
  • Maintain databases essential for the preparation of Commission plans and reports
  • Access U.S. Census Bureau and other Federal and State data as needed to fulfill data requests from counties and local government units

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, economics, urban studies, demography, or related field
  • Sound understanding of the basic concepts and principles of planning techniques
  • Working knowledge of methods and procedures needed to collect and analyze planning-related data
  • Effective writing, research, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work within and contribute to a team structure and to work with diverse groups of individuals within diverse environments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software, specifically with Access and Excel
  • Experience with ESRI

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $90,000 depending upon education, experience, and placement with the organizational structure. A salary exceeding this range may be considered for highly qualified applicants.  Please see our website for a description of employment benefits.
