URBAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY AND PLANNING – GIS

Part-time GIS Lecturer (non-tenure-track)

The Department of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University is searching for a part‐time lecturer to teach one undergraduate-level Introduction to GIS course in Spring 2023. A syllabus for how the course has been taught recently is available upon request. 

This course will be taught on Mondays and Wednesdays 10:30-11:45am, although it may be possible to negotiate a different time/day. Instructors must also be willing to offer the course online if needed.

Open only to undergraduates, Introduction to GIS introduces students to the foundations of Geographic Information Systems theory, technology, and applications. Topics include GIS data discovery, data structures and management, principles of cartographic visualization, and spatial analysis. Assignments apply concepts covered in lectures and a term project in each student’s fields of interest is expected.

Qualifications

Candidates should have an MS or PhD in GIS or geography, or an advanced degree in a related field and experience teaching GIS. Candidates must show evidence of successful teaching in GIS or closely related areas. Priority will be given to candidates that focus on environmental applications.
