At Salisbury University (SU), our learning community is student-centered. We strive to empower our students with Planning knowledge, skills, and core values that contribute to active citizenship, gainful employment, and life-long learning in a democratic society and interdependent world.

The Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning (BS-URPL) Program at SU provides students with a solid foundation in planning principles, models, and techniques that professional planners use to help communities meet current and future challenges, and create sustainable development. Our alumni are employed in state and local governments, and private and nonprofit organizations. A significant portion of them attended graduate schools.

Coming to SU for the BS-URPL Program is advantageous
The interdisciplinary orientation of the BS-URPL program provides students with an in-depth understanding of complex urban and regional issues, as well as knowledge of related fields. Students can choose one of two tracks: 1) the Land Use Planning Track focusing on applied planning tools and innovative approaches to use the land efficiently, manage future growth, and create livable communities; or 2) the Environmental Planning Track integrating conservation and resource management with physical processes in the environment to promote sustainable development. A variety of minors (e.g., Economics, Environmental Studies, GIS, and Political Science) allows URPL majors to further tailor their degree to their interests.

At SU, our students get real-life experiences. They work with faculty on planning research projects to address urban and environmental challenges, and are involved in community projects to resolve real urban problems. Also, many students participate in planning internships with state and local agencies to gain professional experiences in Planning.

URPL students join the Smart Growth Club (SGC) that helps them develop leadership skills, and participate in community activities seeking to raise the public awareness of environmental problems and show how Urban Planning policies address these problems, and create livable and sustainable communities.

Through internship programs and awards, alumni networks, SGC activities, and career workshops, our students are exposed to varieties of career and professional development opportunities. We prepare students to compete in the job market, enhance their academic and professional skills, and pursue graduate studies in Urban and Regional Planning.
