Universities as Developers Request for Proposals
Great Cities Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago
Request for Proposals
Chapter-Length Studies of Urban Universities and Real Estate Development
Deadline-November 30, 2001
Great Cities Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago
Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
About the Request for Proposals
Urban colleges and universities are increasingly active in acquiring and developing property, adding not only land and buildings but also commercial ventures to their asset base. There are multiple strategies, goals, and forms of practice, as well as implications of such university activity for the institutions themselves and for their communities and cities. Yet, for all this, there is limited organized research available to understand the significance of the university presence in urban development and enhance the state of practice.
This is a request for proposals for studies that will provide either general critical analysis or case examples of the challenges and best practices of university-based real estate development. The cases and overview studies generated through this RFP will contribute to the course materials for professional development workshops at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and will serve as chapters in an edited, published volume, titled The University as Developer.
