Featured: PD&R Quarterly Update: Government's Response to the Eviction Crisis

In December 2021, PD&R held its most recent Quarterly Update in a virtual event titled "Government's Response to the Eviction Crisis." During this event, speakers Margaret Hagen and Vanessa Helms Garrison discussed the eviction crisis and the impact of the pandemic on the country's households. Hagen moderated a panel discussion with four experts who examined the government's interventions at the federal, state, and local levels.

Message from PD&R Leadership: Reflecting on 2021

In the leadership message, general deputy assistant secretary for PD&R Todd M. Richardson reflects on some of the significant statistics of 2021, and HUD’s role in them. Some topics of key significance include preserving homeownership, maintaining stability for HUD-assisted homeowners, preventing evictions, and responding to the homelessness crisis. Richardson provides analysis of each of these key areas in more detail, and reviews the department’s primary actions.

In Practice: The Willard Street Apartments Provide Affordable Housing and Nonprofit Dental Care in Durham

Opened in March 2021, the Willard Street Apartments is an 82-unit, $21 million affordable housing development in Durham, North Carolina. The first affordable housing project built in downtown Durham, the apartments are immediately adjacent to the Durham Station Transportation Center and were built with sustained support from the community. The building is also home to a nonprofit dental clinic called Local Start Dental.
