Research Roadmap: 2020 Update

PD&R’s research program is essential to helping the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development achieve its mission to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality, affordable homes for all. The Research Roadmap is HUD’s research plan and supports evidence-based policymaking for the Department. The Roadmap looks ahead; it is a multiyear agenda that ensures a robust pipeline of research for years to come, not only through research opportunities we highlight for Congress in our annual budget request, but also through efforts HUD launches in-house and with other external partners in the research community.

The Research Roadmap: 2020 Update was developed with input and support from practitioners, advocates, researchers, and policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels. Through this extensive stakeholder engagement, the Roadmap identifies critical, policy-relevant research questions and helps to guide PD&R research investments.

The Roadmap aligns with HUD’s Strategic Plan 2018–2022 and program operations, making it a living document that drives PD&R’s work on a daily basis. The bipartisan Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act (“Evidence Act”) of 2018 requires federal agencies to launch two major new planning efforts: a Learning Agenda aligned with the next Strategic Plan and Annual Evaluation Plans. The Research Roadmap forms the foundation for these efforts to help systematically plan research and evidence-building activities into the future.

Your feedback on the questions, themes, and projects proposed in the Research Roadmap: 2020 Update will inform HUD’s development of the Learning Agenda and Annual Evaluation Plans for Fiscal Year 2022. You can reach the HUD Research Roadmap team or leave comments at [email protected].
